This i nformation c asts an interesting li ght on th e Austrian version , which c an be date d to th e period betw een the summ er of 19 21 and the w inter of 1922. Furthermore , the copy is some 20 0 metres longer than the US version of 192 4. If one fol lows the detail s given by Richar d Koszarski and Arthur L ennig, this means t hat, a s far as b oth its d ate and its length are co ncerned , the A ustrian versio n lies alm ost exactly i n the mi ddle between the (lost) v ersion shown at the premiere an d the r e-released one .A large part o f the additi onal length of the fil m can b e traced to cuts that wer e made to t he 1924 versi on in almost every shot.
